Job Description: Lighting Designer - Architecture
Position Overview:
The Lighting Designer is responsible for creating innovative and visually appealing lighting designs for architectural projects. This role requires an individual with a strong artistic sense, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of architectural lighting principles. The Lighting Designer will collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, and other project stakeholders to ensure the successful integration of lighting into architectural spaces.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and execute inspiring lighting concepts and designs for architectural projects, focusing on both functional and aesthetic objectives.
2. Collaborate with architects and interior designers to determine lighting requirements, taking into consideration project goals, client preferences, and industry standards.
3. Prepare detailed lighting plans, layouts, and specifications that accurately outline the lighting design intent.
4. Select appropriate lighting fixtures, equipment, and control systems based on project requirements, energy efficiency, and budget constraints.
5. Conduct lighting calculations and simulations to ensure optimal lighting levels, distribution, and visualization within architectural spaces.
6. Coordinate with electrical engineers to integrate lighting systems with building infrastructure.
7. Stay up-to-date with emerging lighting technologies, industry trends, and best practices in architectural lighting design.
8. Participate in project meetings, presentations, and reviews to effectively communicate lighting design concepts and progress to project teams and clients.
9. Collaborate with contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers to source lighting products and ensure their successful installation and operation.
10. Provide guidance and support to junior designers and other team members involved in lighting design projects.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field.
2. Proven experience as a Lighting Designer with a focus on architectural projects.
3. Strong knowledge of lighting design principles, including lighting techniques, color theory, and human perception of light.
4. Proficiency in lighting design software such as AutoCAD, AGi32, Dialux, or equivalent.
5. Familiarity with lighting control systems and their integration with architectural spaces.
6. Excellent visual and spatial awareness, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
7. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey lighting design concepts to diverse audiences.
8. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
9. Knowledge of relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards related to lighting design.
10. Portfolio demonstrating a range of successful lighting design projects.
11. Professional certifications or memberships in lighting design associations (e.g., IALD, IES) are preferred.
